(prcenter.de) Munich - an automatic recognition of speed data on road signs makes driving a car in the future more comfortable. Besides the system of Siemens prevents unpleasant surprises by punishing notes. It functions with a camera in the car, which absucht forward the environment on road signs, and processes the information in on board computer. With the Tempomaten the car can be adjusted then in such a way that it does not exceed the prescribed maximum speed. Particularly in unknown quantity environment or at building sites exists the danger for drivers otherwise that they drive unintentionally too fast.
The road sign recognition is part of per pilot, a network of Fahrerassistenzsystemen of the automobile supplier Siemens VDO, and in approximately two years into series will go. The experts built the system with further assistance like a trace recognition, an indulgence system or an a park assistant into an upper class sedan. Numerous automakers already drove this test vehicle to sample and showed large interest in the system.
For the collection of road signs a CMOS camera attached in the proximity of the rear view mirror scannt constantly the road off. The system compares the pictures with stored samples of speed references. If the software recognizes a restriction, it indicates the value in the Tacho or a Head UP display to the driver. If the Tempomat is connected, the car brakes automatically on the permitted speed down.
