Fine dust: Also air in many German cities thickens 2006

(prcenter.de) Federal Office for Environment Protection (UBA) draws first balance of the load in Germany
Dessau - which shows evaluation of the still provisional fine dust data for the year 2006: The load of the population with fine types of dust injurious to health is too high - like already in the year 2005 -. Because of 100 that zirka 450 measuring stations was the fine dust loading in the past year on more than 35 days over the permissible value of 50 µg/m ³ (micro gram = a millionth gram per standard cubic meter of air). This limit value for fine dust - thus the excess of 50 µg/m ³ on no more than 35 days per year - applies since at the beginning of 2005. Cities such as Stuttgart, Munich, Cottbus, Leipzig and Dortmund crossed the limit value clearly. In the comparison to the previous year the load of the human health and the environment with fine types of dust improved nor worsened 2006 neither. Like 2005 the limit value excesses arose predominantly at urban traffic measuring stations.
Beside the fine dust another air pollutant offers cause for more and more concern: Nitrogen dioxide (NO2), a gas, which impairs the respiration and with burn procedures - for instance during the energy production and in the traffic - develops. In the opinion the UBA runs Germany the risk to keep also with the NO2 the limit value European Union far valid starting from 2010 from 40 micro gram of NO2 per cubic meter of air in the annual average not. At present the NO2-Konzentrationen at approximately half of the urban, trafficnear measuring points in Germany crosses the yearly limit value valid starting from 2010. After the past emission trends it is not to be counted on the fact that Germany will surface covering keep this limit value.
